Nope.  Cristobal Colón was the Castilian form.  His Genoan form should
have been closer to Cristoforo Columbo... I thing that "Italian" was
just a geographic concept at that time.

But then, all those people were baptized in Latin, using the latin
form of their names while they used the vernacular form in dairly
basis.  When things are that way I guess that translating the name
into local vernacular language is natural.

I wonder how my Latin name would have been: Carolvs Evgenivs?
