There is a theory that Nome, Alaska got its name similarly. The city of
Nome is named after nearby Cape Nome. Supposedly, a map draftsman noted that
this cape had at that time no name. He noted "? name" on the map,
which was misread as "C Nome" and interpreted as "Cape Nome".
