You might try:
College Yiddish: An Introduction to the Yiddish Language
and to Jewish Life and Culture
by Uriel Weinreich. My copy is from 1976, but I just checked
Amazon and they are still offering it (Price: $35).
Speaking of Yiddish, it is alive and well among certain sectors
of the Israeli population. In fact, on occasion, I have given interesting
multi-lingual speech therapy sessions involving Yiddish:
Mother - Me: English
Mother - Child: Yiddish
Me - Child: Hebrew
And if we all talk at once?
(Then it gets _real_ interesting! ;-) )
