Not just North American first nations do this, but German as well. "Deutsch"
means "people-ish".

Hi Paul,
Many N. American aboriginal languges are named in a similar fashion as in
Dene which simply means (the) people. My very first conlang, Kadingu took
its name from "the tongue". I appreciate your suggestion. See my related
