I changed my name after I was married, and it really wasn't difficult. I did a complete first-middle-last change. The most expensive part in Delaware is running the required notice in the newspaper. Court fees came to about $50, and the ad cost me $100 to run the notice for 3 weeks in the local paper. Of course, in the US, it varies by state, and other countries, obviously, have their own rules and procedures, but if you really hate your name (or just have a different one that you prefer), it is worth it. My parents still call me by the old first name, but I can deal with that so long as I don't have to use it myself. It seems to shock people who are complaining about their names when I say, "Change it!" :) I think it is similar to the shock people get when you admit that the language you are mumbling in was completely invented. <G> I have translated some names and transliterated others into ea-luna. Aidani-- "awaken near" (where "near" is location, not time)... That's kind of romantic, and it beats "awaken the burden" or "sand that is awake", other possible transliterations. "lima" is grey... It's also the capital of Peru, isn't it? :) "mia" doesn't have a meaning in ea-luna. A common female name in the fictional culture associated with ea-luna is "Ilude", but it isn't a particularly pretty name, and "Iluliude" is another form of it, both meaning something akin to "daughter of the Earth". I am going to have to go think about first names now... :) -- Mia Soderquist (tuozin@dmv.com) http://www.crosswinds.net/~ratnow/ Want to play the Story Game? http://www.onelist.com/community/storygame
