About twenty years ago, the World Congress of Esperanto
was held in Beijing, China. On Sunday, a busload of tourists
were to go to a Protestant church for a service in Esperanto.
But the Chinese bus driver took them to a Roman Catholic
church. The driver spoke only Chinese. None of the tourists
spoke Chinese. However, the priest knew both Chinese and
Latin. An American (!) on the bus explained the problem to
the priest in Latin, who relayed it to the driver.
