Replying late, but better late than never.

Hmmm. The main Yivríndil speech area wouldn't have too many birches, methinks, or if it did they'd be rare. Furthermore, the tropical areas where Proto-Yivril was spoken definitely did NOT contain birches--so this word can't be native. Instead, let it be: saivyerda "birch tree" borrowed from Praçí _saivierda_ "white-tree," which is ultimately from *sal(a)veirdo
> > 2. werewolf / lycanthrope of some variety
Yiv. doesn't have werewolves of the shapeshifting variety, or any other shapeshifters that I know of. There is, however, an already extant word for a race that was mingled with wolves in mythological times: weyyana "wolf-man"
> > 3. to save (money)
Thinking about this yeilded not one, but three words: _kipya_ "to jar up; to save, to preserve" < _kip_ "jar" (connotations of wise foresight, normal planning and saving) _ruéfya_ "to save, to drive a hard bargain" < _ruéfasí_ "thriftiness" (jealous of money, cheapness) _dolmuya_ "to hoard, to pile up" < _dolmu_ "pile, hoard" (connotations of miserliness and negative qualities) [already extant]
> > 4. to conquer
_gésenya_ "to be victorious, to overcome." [already extant]
> > 5. motif
_sinessa_ "pattern, motif", cf. _sina_ "shape, form" That was fun! Let's keep it up. Jesse S. Bangs Pelíran jaspax@ juno.com "Skin and tragedy always attract a crowd." --Pedro the Lion
