Well, what I did back in elementary school was make my birthday the
first day of the year... astronomically almost justifiable since it's
May 5, almost the cross-quarter day between March and June.

... and buffalo for ox.
Note that Rabbit/Cat years are also Yin years, which combined with the
Vietnamese tradition makes sense in the Western habit of conflating
the feline with the feminine.
