You can also always just number everything, as modern Chinese do with the
Gregorian calendar.
I can't really add much here. The only calendar I've fully fleshed out isn't
really for Earth, and the planet it's for (actually a moon) is alien enough to
require a drastically different calendar. It's tidally locked, so it's "day" is as
long as it's "month" (the time Jed takes to orbit its parent planet -- about 40
Earth days), so that's divided up into six segments that roughly correspond to
astronomical signs (I've developed a bit of a historical explanation behind it).
