Why is this so odd? One factor which can contribute significantly to depression is
the lack of opportunity to express thoughts or feelings. I recall having read,
a while back, a young adult novel in which the protagonist said she had studied
languages most of her life in an effort to find her native one; having
acknowledged the failure of that quest and (perhaps not quite coincidentally)
been committed to a facility for emotionally-disturbed youths, she used
conlanging as a method of connecting to those around her.

I've given some consideration to basing a core vocabulary on my favorite book of poetry. :-)
