OT: Please help!

Hi all!

A friend of mine wrote a lyrics for a song we wanted to finish, but there's some
expressions I'm not sure of (not even that they are correct). Could you
explain, what they mean (If someone could translate them in German, it's still
better) or if not correct, how would be a correct form?

1. "I was told a good many times / When I was a child"
2. "I waited for answers / And thought to have heard some"
3. "At times he speaks"
4. "Speaks with words for my ears / Or with words of a friend"
