So, the dollar would become worth five of today's dollars? Essentially
cutting prices by 80%? Why?
At any rate, I agree that the penny should be kept until such time as
we're ready to eliminate the nickel. Then the dime will be the smallest
unit, and we'll preserve the decimal nature. Presumably people would
drop the final 0 after a while and just write things like $4.7. Of
course, that would mean also getting rid of the quarter in favor of,
say, a 20 cent coin.
