TECH: HELP!! idiotic keyboard problem

I was typing along happily using my US-Intl. keyboard setting, when all of a
sudden, the ~/` key produces |/#, and the / key produces é, plus other
weirdness-- is this Dvorak by any chance (shouldn't be)--note that it's
working properly here... This happened once before and I solved it by
accident.........WTF?????

I'm using Open Office Writer 2. Anybody familiar with that? I'm hoping I
will get a faster answer here than by spending hours looking thru their FAQ.
