That statement puzzles me. It seems to me that that side of the moon
has been called the dark side for a mighty long time. How would
folks have known it was composed of darker rock before flights to the
moon? I should think it was called the dark side because people
always saw the same side and it was always lit, therefore the other
side must be dark.
