But `von' is clearly /fOn/. And /f/ is definitely realised tense and voiceless. It should be a very clear [f] then (consistently, presumably many if not all dialects). I thought the question was about whether /v/ could be voiceless because its main difference was being lax. That I don't know. **Henrik
