There was a /v/, but actually no /w/. But, /Sv/ would be not just a new
combination, but a new *type* of combination. Japanese only allows for
clusters of (N,Q)C(y) where N represents general nasal and Q represents
geminate, and could easily be modified to allow for clusters of
voiceless consonants. But to produce /Sv/ would require a complete
change in what *types* of clusters are allowed. I got the impression
that Yoon Ha wanted to stay pretty close to Japanese phonology.
