It would seem to be a shortening of expressions that I have in my fairly bookish Spanish: (no) me da la gana 'I (don't) want to' ~ 'I (don't) like it' tengo ganas de... 'I want to..., I have a desire to...' (or with negative) (a mi) me da lo mismo 'it's all the same to me' = (a mi) me es igual
