Always glad to supply new info. And sorry if I came off brusque; I was
going for humorous teasing, and not quite making it..

As to the odd grammar, I honestly have no idea.  Maybe someone else on
here can contribute an etymology of the construct?   I can imagine
that the use of an adjective in the "me da igual" case derived from
something similar to the more conformant "me parece igual", but in the
case of "me da feliz"/"triste" instead of the more obvious
"felicidad"/"tristeza", I don't know.
