Apparently I have, as Arathaey stands an example. Perhaps my monologue illustrated me as a victim too strongly. A handful of morons laughed on the first few weeks of my German 3 class, but they got used to it when I persisted. My college has a more diverse population than Scripps (I have visited Harvey Mudd, your neighboring college). Here, at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, we have a thick population of smart types, but ours is also an agriculture school, so it happens that my roommate is a self described "good country boy" wielding an excessive arsenal and engaging in such sports as logging and pig hunting. I love him no less for it, and I still pronounce our Spanish names like "Higuera" and "Cerro San Luis" as well as I can. I agree, there is pressure among males not to excel academically, here. I've always wondered at how my female counterparts could excel academically and assimilate socially at once. Kris. -- (watch the reply to)
