Americans never had the monopoly on ugly-tourists (though the prevaling lack
of drive to even try to learn a foreign language before visiting another
country irks me no end).

I've memories from the mid-80s of watching Japanese tourists at Neu
Schwanstein ignore protesting guides and guards as they warndered hither and
yon, picking up and examining priceless ceramics and other works of art.
