There's a distinction in British English (though I think it's beginning
to fade away):
Customer: I'd like a fresh turkey, please
Shop Assistant: Sorry, we haven't got fresh turkeys
(ie, we're out of stock just now)
or:
Shop Assistant: Sorry, we don't have fresh turkeys
(ie, we don't sell them)
