Yes, I think it's very realistic. Most sound change rules noted by linguists are more in the league of tendencies (with various strengths) rather than scientifically-rigid rules. Social, political, and other factors will always have their contributions to make. But don't forget that your inflections may also undergo independent sound-change as well as syntactic function. Mike
