I had another pupil (used to teach remedial Latin as a student, and I fed them St. Matthew's Gospel because, strange as it may seem, it's *easy*) who did exactly that. When I pointed out - gently - that neither the Romans nor the Hebrews had discos at the time that the text was written, she went into contortions to fit discus-throwing into it. She couldn't wrap her mind around the simple fact that what's thrown in discus-throwing is in fact a *plate*. Our daughters, on the other hand, call a frisbee a "hovering plate" - they're three and five and already show an aptitude for language. It must be hereditary, then :-) Irina Varsinen an laynynay, saraz no arlet rastinay. irina@rempt.xs4all.nl (myself) http://www.xs4all.nl/~bsarempt/irina/frontpage.html (English) http://www.xs4all.nl/~bsarempt/irina/backpage.html (Nederlands)
