Roger is right so far about German:

1) Wäre er hier, könnte er uns aushelfen.
   Were he here, could  he us  help out.

2) Hätte ich gewusst, wie schlecht das  war, hätte ich es
   Had   I   known    how bad      that was  had   I   it

   mir nie   angeschaut.
       never seen.

BUT

3) Wenn der Frühling kommt, fangen die Blumen an zu blühen.
   When the spring   comes  start  the flowers   to bloom.

It's awkward to say "?Kommt der Frühling, fangen die Blumen
an zu blühen", at least in my dialect.
