Gentlemen, gentlemen! There is no need to continue this debate. Frank
Herbert himself weighed in on this topic before his death. The planet
is [@'r&kIs] (or -ks= or -k@s], and the lady Fremen's name is - brace
yourself ['tSejni]. As in US Vice President Dick. I find that
unjustifiable - if that were the intended pronunciation he should have
written it differently. It's almost as bad as the Star Trek
pronunciation of a name spelled "Kahless" as ['kejl@s].
It is interesting to note that in the 1984 movie, which Herbert
consulted on, they pronounced Chani's name ['tSani]. But in the more
recent Sci-Fi miniserieses it was the Herbert pronunciation.
Interestingly, Duke Leto was [lido] in the movie and [lEdo] in the
miniseries, so the orthography is consistently inconsistent.
