I suspect that this root *is* the basic ordinal for 2; the English
word "second" is a borrowing from Latin, where it is a transparent
use of the participle of "sequor" = "follow".
ObOT: The Gospel according to Mark in the Vulgate is called
"secundus Marcus", "following Mark".
