I have to agree wholeheartedly. All these classification schemes that try to box the whole world into neat l'il boxes just don't work. It may work well for a certain target audience, but for others, it's practically meaningless. [snip]

[snip] Well, I wouldn't go that far. There are usually some grains of truth in what people say, but one should not be constricted by a box defined by others. [snip]

[snip] Well, I don't know about that. I *do* know that, at least in my conlang's internal history, there should be a body of pedagogical literature that teaches future generation the proper ways of their tongue. Now once I'm done with my magnum opus (i.e. the reference grammar / language definition document), I shall be working on a tutorial aimed at teaching the next generation of Ebisedi their tongue. (And of course, also aimed at teaching curious outsiders the wonders of the language ;-)) And after that, if I ever get around to it, I might actually just write the entire history of the Ferochromon universe in native script. Now *that* would be quite an undertaking... seeing that it covers at least 7 different eras, and each subsequent era after the Era of the Kingdoms (when the current dialect of the language is the lingua franca) splits into 3 daughter languages which evolve in 3 divergent paths throughout the rest of the history. (Hey, I've got to come up with *some* excuse for doing at least one completely tonal daughter lang, and at least one completely agglutinating daughter lang, which coexist at the same time, so that although the languages may be almost mutually unintelligible, they actually share the same word roots.)
