The Guard don't enter the Daine slums. For
several reasons. First, they'd be slaughtered;
second, no one cares what Daine get up to so long
as they're out of Men's sight. In other words,
they wouldn't respond to a crime or any kind
disaster there.
So, do the Daine have their own Guards or
similar?

They're definately not teatotallers; a lot of the soldiers in Sovchilen
prefer their wine unmixed, whereas the normal custom, at least in
households, is to dilute the wine half and half with water.
Wein allein macht dumm,

Wasser allein macht stumm,
das bewisen im wasser die fische.
Um nicht eines von beiden zu sein
trink' ich mit wasser vermischt mein wein.

Personally I don't go beyond a pint-o-beer,
if only because alcohol don't mix well with
my medication.

Gods save us from Freudians, neo-Freudians and all other
psycho-sexually-obsessed fraudians!
My stepson (18) has taken an interest in psychology
and wants to become a therapist. Not of the Freudian
persuasion though. He summed up his understanding on
how to debunk'em thus: "In those days people got obsessed
with sex because they weren't supposed to have sex!"
I answered that if that's the case modern people ought
to get obsessed with unsafe sex. The psychologist
didn't answer, but his technologist twin LOLed...

Because the Cwendaso refuse to cremate their dead, some Trehels are tempted
to wonder if they don't have souls, because anyone with a soul would
obviously want to free the soul after death by cremating the body.
Incidentally that's exactly the view the Sohlesjn (those who
speak, or at any rate write, Sohlob) take. I wonder where
it is represented in *this* world?

If the Trehelish would readjust some of their cultural
attitudes, they would have far less theft - and end up hanging far fewer men.
Maybe they *want* to hang thieves, but feel that
they need repeated conviction before doing it,
because that seems more 'proper'?
