I think it means something like: When we waste time arguing over small
inconsequential things, we tend to lose sight of the important things.
Or: When we argue over irrelevancies, we tend to lose sight of the
main point.
This is a real good saying, and conculturally speaking, will have to
be appropriated by the "Book of the Teacher", which is full of such
sayings and attached parables.
