Well, the rule (*here*, anyway) says that they're capitalized when they're
used as proper names or in conjunction with proper names, but not elsewhere,
so "my mom did this", "Grandma Ellie did this" "Dad did this", but not "my
Mom did this", "grandma Ellie did this", or "dad did this".
The rule applies to any title, actually: "they attacked the lord of the
manor"/"they attacked Lord Vader"; "things your god does"/"things God does".
