Buses are really bad. They like being ten minutes late at the terminus when
there are a bunch of buses sitting unused about 200 m thaddaway, and take
for ever to get anywhere. Furthermore, they can get away with one bus a
route an hour and half that on Saturdays and nothing on Sundays. If the
trams tried to do that, they'd be shot. (But then again, the trams have a
highly different relationship with the Government than the buses.) (One can
guess what happened this afternoon, can't one?)
My A$289.95 student yearly metcard (paid for by my parents, of course) gets
me unlimited travel on all trains, trams and buses in Melbourne. Of course,
it's supposed to be 'validated' (shoved into machine) at the start of each
trip and is certainly the worse for wear, given it was issued at 10.50 a.m.
on 18.02.2001 (and has to last me till about 28.02.2002).
