Brooklyn is derived from Breukelen, a town in Holland. Harlem from Haarlem, the capitol city of one of our provinces. Many more names of streets and parts of New York are dutch in origin. The New York area was once a Dutch colony, until we foolishly traded it for Surinam (where there was a lot of Bauxite in those days). Maybe if we hadn't done that, we would all be speaking Dutch on this list today ;-) Just wallowing in what might have been :-) Maarten van Beek
