Do americans spell aero- as ero-? (For example, do they spell 'aerodrome' as
"erodrome" (I know they spell 'aeroplane' as "airplane", and pronounce it to
match, and that's the only diff i remember seeing).
If not, why not? They spell 'mediaeval' as "medieval" (pointless, IMHO,because it
no longer suggests two vowels), aesthetic as esthetic, why have I never seen
aero- as ero-?

Well let's see. Having never ever written the word aerodrome down before, but
having seen it spelled before, I'd say "aerodrome" just looks better than
erodrome (or for that matter airdrome, following the airplane example). I think
I've written mediaeval, medieval and mediaval (tho the last of course is
wrong), so I can't really help out with that one. Finally, I prefer to write
aesthetic rather than esthetic (it just looks to naked without the a).
