dav=B7en=B7port (d=B2v".n-p=F4rt", -p=BDrt") n. 1. A large sofa, often co=
nvertible
into a bed. 2. A small desk. [From davenport, a small writing desk
(obsolete) probably from the name of the manufacturer.]
It's listed in the American Heritage Dictionary (1992) without any region=
al
citation whatsoever. It might be a generational term more than a regiona=
l
term.
In my own life, the word died with my grandmothers. I don't know anyone
living who uses it.
