Kassí sexual morality is rather different from any human society I've
encountered, due, in part, to their biology. Unlike humans, they have
no instinctive tendency toward pair-bonding, thus, no concept of
marriage. Also, unlike humans, they are not sexual year-round, but
rather, only during a specific mating season. Any form of sexuality
outside that mating season would be seen as severely perverted.
However, their species is highly fertile, which has led to the use of an
herb called Root-Of-Life. Root-Of-Life is a powerful contraceptive.
The Council of Elders chooses who will be permitted to forgo it in a
given year. One may decline the opportunity to bear children, but would
be looked down upon if she did that too often. In addition, a man who
declined a "breeder"'s desire would be considered *extremely* odd.
Women and children live in large houses of a few dozen individuals,
family houses, generally dozens of generations old. The boys, upon
reaching adulthood, are taken away by the men of the village to a secret
location outside the village, where they are initiated into manhood.
They then move to a different village. A man may never return to the
village of his birth. Men generally move every few years. This
prevents inbreeding.
