LOL.

Since even in small restaurants the cutlery is put according to etiquette, it does indeed show something ;))) .

Yesterday Jan and I (*my* Jan, Jan van Steenbergen is still in honeymoon ;))) ) were invited for dinner by a Brasilian couple of our friends. We ate what they described as "a typical Brasilian dish, which is based on the French boeuf Stroganoff" ;)) . The sauce was *definitely* the best part of it! Yummy!!!
>I've always divided cultures into two types: those who eat to live, and >those who live to eat.
LOL. I completely agree. And I've always seen this division in Europe to be akin to a North-South division. Southern countries (France included) seem to have more a culture of food than Northern countries. I see it for instance in the way people invite each other for instance. When French people invite friends for dinner, it means that we will stay at the table eating from 20:00 to midnight or more! When Dutch people invite friends for dinner, dinner itself lasts hardly more than an hour, and the rest of the evening they spend on the sofa drinking coffee :)) . And for what I've seen, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece are like France, and Germany and Scandinavian countries are more like Holland.
