Our German teacher reg'larly reminds us never to use long consonants when
speaking German (my L1, Swedish, demands that any consonant following a
stressed, short vowel be long). He'd presumeably pronounce it as [tSECIS@s
SlOs] in carefual speech.

BTW, can any one give me the deal on "die Tshechei/Tschechien" and "die
Slovakei/Slovakien"? In school I learnt "die Tschechei" and "Slovakien", but
the Austrian I met this Friday said "Tschechien" and "die Slovakei". German
newspapers seem to be using "die Tschechische Republik" and "Slovakien" ...

Also, is "Czechia" or similar acceptable in English? I'm really tired of
"Czech Republic" ... or should one perhaps start saying "Bohemia and
Moravia"? :-)

spelt that right)?
