You have a very weird image of German... it sounds much more
articulated than the average English, so why drunken and slurring?
Besides, the true beauty of German lies within its rich and colorful
vocabulary, its freedom of sentence structure thanks to cases, and the
plethora of nuances and meanings made possible by that. It's the most
lyrical language I know (alright, I only know few languages, but
still... ;-), paralleled only by what English used to be in the time of Shakespeare.

Ooh, I love that book! It's one of the very few of the books we read in
literature class that I really liked. Everyone should read it, in
German if possible.
