This reminds me of one of the classic translation blunders: an insurance
brochure saying (in French) "Protect your jewelry with a special policy"
came through in English as "Protect your jewelry with a police special",
where a "police special" is a .38-caliber handgun formerly used by
most police forces in the U.S.  Unlike most of these stories, there
seems to be documentary evidence for this one.
