material from him.
Some of Tolkein's critical material might be interesting, but
unfortunately, some of us are sufficient Tolkein geeks that we might
recognized "On Fairy Tales" no matter how it's been mangled.
One could take a travelers's tale from the real world. Maybe an extract
of Jonson and Boswell's trip through Scotland (which I've not read) might
be good. If not that, then maybe some other traveler's tale from our own
world. That would help to some extent since these already describe
things that are presumed to be at least somewhat strange to the intended
audience.
