It's probably been years since I used "stylish"-- I've come to prefer "faaaabulous!"-- I don't think it would have, or ever had, any ironic associations for me. But other words in -ish, I suppose, could contaminate it. Also, something could be fashionable (i.e. of the moment), but not necessarily stylish, no? And French women are noted for being, at all times, ever so stylish, even if they're wearing hand-me-downs or thrift-shop finds........
