And you could use various cadences to indicate punctuation. For example
(assuming the key of C for a moment) a descending cadence from D->C could
be a period, and ascending one from B->C could be an explanation mark, a
cadence from G->C could be the end of a paragraph, and a half-cadence
(whcih ends of G) could be a question mark.
Just a random thought.
Switching back to poetic languages momentarily, another thought that I had
is that if a poetic language makes it _too_ easy to rhyme (or use
alliteration, or paralellism, or whatever) then it probably wouldn't be
considered poetry anymore. If most English words could only start with one
of three letters, for instance, alliteration would be trivially easy and we
wouldn't consider it anything special. Put another way, part of what makes
poetry special is that it is fairly challenging to write.
