Yes. My understanding is that in X-SAMPA, _ is used for both forming
diacritics, and as a tie-bar, a highly illogical state of affairs if ever
I saw one. CXS allows the use of ) as a tie-bar, and thus polysemy
disambiguator (how's that for knitting threads together?).
