actually, oe (at least the versions i've used) are very simple...  i've

i wouldn't be surprised if it's one of those weird bugs like this one
that i encountered at work (i was expected to fix it):
adobe golive 5 was installed and working
i installed office xp
golive couldn't upload files
i uninstalled office xp
golive worked again
i went to microsoft's web site... <left out 20 page rant about microsoft
tech support (or lack thereof)>
then i went to adobe's web site... it wasn't much better.

so maybe some other program you have installed causes outlook express to
do this...

i'd suggest incredimail (www.incredimail.com)... the free version has
more features than outlook express and is easier to use.  i'm not sure
about tech support, but it has to be better than microsoft...
