Interesting. As a member of body wihich has amongst its assorted members
some persons who believe strongly in nature spirits (i.e. Pagans), I've
perceived the idea of "how would they communicate" (whenever I've considered
it) to be more an issue of "why would they communicate" and then "by what
mechanism perceivable to humans" rather than that a fire spirit might
unintentionally burn the human, a water spirit drown him/her, an earth
spirit smother... I suppose an air spirit might whisper.
I realize that I've never considered any of them "pure" elementals - fire
needs air, fuel; water has dissolved solids; earth can be damp; air carries
smoke, dust, mist.
