I wish I was... But I'm not exaggerating at all. I saw with my own eyes a
thermometer put outside in a sunny place go up to 55 degrees Celsius!!! As
I said, in the shadow it was 42 degrees as *average* (at 6 o'clock in the
morning, it was usually already 30 degrees...). I remember a day that we
had to go home early because the wind blowing was even warmer than the air
we were in!!! (as if a giant hairdryer had blown against us) It's something
I've never experienced before...
The warmth took its toll: 5000 "official" deaths due to the warmth
(non-official sources double that number). In the village we were (which
has about 800 inhabitants), 3 people died of the warmth while we were
there. And according to the French meteorological services, we have a new
record of high temperatures! The former record of 1976 has been broken this
year: since the beginning of the French meteorological services, it has
never been so warm in France. And we happened to be in the warmest place in
the country...
But we did enjoy our holidays! Swimming in the Loire (or what was left of
it, it was nearly dry :)) ) is a nice experience :) .
