Having a PT kind of presupposes a certain advancement in the field of
chemistry.
In my favourite conlang, Verdurian, Rosenfelder had a look at what
chemical things Earth's scientists would be likely to know -- what
elements they had identified, what they wrongly considered to be
elements but were actually compounds, what regular system alchemists
used to name things (e.g. 'calx' for oxides created in a certain way).
The results are at http://www.zompist.com/chemical.htm and
http://www.zompist.com/versci.htm .
When/if I have time, I'll draw up which elements were known, in order
of atomic number. It won't be a complete atomic table, by any means.
Cheers,
Philip
