No, not all of us can be fitted into one of the two categories.

I used to churn out quite a number of conlangs (mostly auxlangs) in my
teens, but I think they lasted more than a couple of days - a few months
at least. Nor was it boredom that prompted a change, but new ideas -
often prompted by whatever natlang I had most recently come across :)
You may well be right, I guess, about conworlders being carried away
with their projects. I did sometime in my mid teens populate Venus with
people speaking a vaguely Hungarian/Turkish inspired conlang - but never
developed it and have never got into 'conworlding' ever since.
I don't think engelaners quite fit either of the two categories above.
Certainly my 'briefscript' project has gone on for a very long time, but
I have not got carried away with it. Indeed, had I been so carried away,
it would probably be more advanced than, alas, it is. Obviously I
haven't dropped it after a couple of days ;)
