Here's what I added:
Transcribing speech sounds:
On CONLANG, we use the transcription system that is standard among linguists
in general: the International Phonetic Alphabet, or IPA. Referring to sounds
in terms of your pronunciation is not a good idea, as there are members from
all over the world with many different native languages. Unfortunately, the IPA
includes many symbols that are not available in all email systems. Therefore
several all-ASCII transcription systems have emerged; see the conlanglinks.tk
page for links to descriptions of them. If a message sent to the list
includes phonetic transcription and doesn't indicate the system being used,
chances are it's either the "Conlang modified" version of X-SAMPA (labeled
CXS on the conlanglinks.tk page) or else X-SAMPA itself.
