That's exactly what I meant! I'm feeling rather clever now for having
spotted it ;-)... Actually, a while ago I was having a discussion
with Ed on categories and Lakoff and so on, and _x's x_ was one of
the turning points - when Ed told me that it was a point de appui
for Lakoff, I started reading him. (There are two library copies
of his book in the Netherlands, one a preview preprint, but it's
also available from almost every academic bookshop. Women, Fire
and Dangerous Things, I mean.) I'd never heard something like your
examples, though. But then, even though I'm half thinking in English
most of the day, I seldom hear it spoken - mostly when we have a
conlanger visiting!
